Former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin was not impressed by India's T20 World Cup squad. The former batter was of the opinion that India should have picked Shreyas Iyer and veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami in the 15-member squad.
India finalised their T20 World Cup on Monday, 12 September, which featured a very different looking bowling attack than the last edition of the tournament. Both spinners from the last edition of the trophy did not manage to find a berth this time around, and in the pace department, Harshal Patel was included alongside the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Arshdeep Singh.
Mohammed Shami, who has been falling back in the pecking order for a while now in the T20I side was included as a travelling reserve for the Indian side.
Azharuddin took to Twitter to express his opinion and said that the two players - Iyer and Shami should have been included in the main squad.
"Surprised at the omission of Shreyas Iyer and Md. Shami from the main squad. Shreyas Iyer instead of Deepak Hooda and Md. Shami in the place of Harshal Patel would be my choice," the former cricketer wrote.
