Modi babu busy arresting opposition leaders: Mamata Banerjee's latest salvo

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is busy arresting opposition leaders but is yet to clear Bengal’s dues, Mamata Banerjee said in a scathing attack on the ruling party.

Modi babu is busy arresting opposition leaders, but even after eight years in power, the Centre is yet to clear Bengal’s dues, Mamata Banerjee said in a scathing attack on the ruling party.

“After completing eight years of government, the BJP is still not paying Bengal’s share of dues. They are taking money from the state in the form of taxes, and then not allotting our share of funds. We are getting only 40% of the funds. We pay for 100 days of employment, the ration scheme, the ‘Banglar Badi’ scheme and the ‘Sarat Yojana’ scheme from that. That is our money and we are not getting it from the Centre,” the chief minister said.

“I will tell the BJP-led Central government to give us our money back or else we will say ‘Good Bye BJP’. If you can’t pay money to the states, you have no right to govern this country. We will protest against this on June 5 and June 6,” she added.

The chief minister also slammed the Centre for the rising prices of cooking gas. “The price of LPG keeps increasing. During the elections, BJP talks about ‘Ujjwala Yojana’ and after the elections, it becomes ‘dhokha (betrayal)’. Demonetisation was such a major flaw that even the RBI couldn’t defend the government. I read a recent report that the inflow of fake currency has increased. So what did we achieve with demonetisation?”

“Modi babu is busy arresting opposition leaders. You have arrested Delhi’s minister, Maharashtra’s minister. You are sending central agencies to Hemant Soren’s residence. You are calling someone “coal thief”. Why aren’t the CBI and the ED going to BJP ministers’ homes? Try whatever you want, there will be no entry for BJP in 2024,” she warned.

Lashing out over the centre’s various disinvestment plans, the fiery leader said, “The central government is busy selling companies: be it the Indian Railways or the insurance companies. Everything is being sold. Yet they claim that they are the best.”
