Disney's live-action Moana trailer reveals Dwayne Johnson as Maui, showcasing iconic moments ahead of the film's July release.
Disney has released a new trailer for Moana, offering the first full look at Dwayne Johnson as Maui in the live-action adaptation of the studio’s popular animated film.
Johnson reprises his role as the shape-shifting demigod, a character he originally voiced in Moana. The trailer showcases his transformation into Maui, complete with the character’s signature tattoos and long hair.
Newcomer Catherine Lagaʻaia stars as Moana, the young navigator who sets out on a journey to save her island. The footage revisits several familiar elements from the original story, including Moana’s first encounter with Maui and glimpses of the larger adventure that unfolds across the ocean.
The trailer also highlights returning characters and iconic moments, including the appearance of the treasure-obsessed crab Tamatoa and the fiery force Te Kā. Familiar music and sonic elements from the original film are also featured.
The supporting cast includes John Tui as Chief Tui, Frankie Adams as Sina and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala.
The film is directed by Thomas Kail, known for his work on Hamilton. Producers include Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, Beau Flynn and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also returns to contribute to the music alongside Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foaʻi.
