
MLA Chandru Lamani remanded in judicial custody till March 3

Bengaluru MLA Chandru Lamani remanded in custody until March 3 for alleged bribery; associates also detained.
Shirahatti BJP MLA Dr. Chandru Lamani, who was arrested by the Lokayukta Police while allegedly taking a bribe from a contractor in Gadag district on Friday, was brought to Bengaluru on Saturday. He was produced before the judge of the Special Court of Magistrate for criminal cases against former and present MPs and MLAs, at his residence. He was remanded in judicial custody till March 3. Dr. Lamani was subsequently shifted to Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.
Along with the legislator, his personal assistant, Manjunath Valmiki and an associate, Guru Naik, were also produced before the judge. All three accused were remanded in judicial custody following the hearing. Lokayukta Police did not seek their custody.
Gadag Lokayukta Police laid a trap based on a complaint by a contractor from whom the MLA had allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹11 lakh. During the raid, police seized ₹5 lakh from the private hospital run by Dr. Lamani, where the bribe was allegedly paid.

The State has made significant strides in infrastructure development, Public Works Department Minister P.A. Muhammed Riyas has said. Virtually inaugurating the Kuttikkanam-Kattappana stretch of the State highway on Sunday, Mr. Riyas noted that 60% of the State’s roads have been upgraded to Bituminous Macadam and Bituminous Concrete (BMBC) standards within the last five years.
