Michael Carrick plays down permanent Manchester United job talk after Arsenal win
India Today
Michael Carrick has played down talk of becoming Manchester United's permanent manager, choosing to focus on the present as United's revival gathers pace after statement wins over Arsenal and Manchester City.
Michael Carrick has insisted his focus remains firmly on the job in hand at Manchester United, rather than speculation over whether he dreams of becoming the club’s permanent manager, as United continue a dramatic resurgence under his stewardship.
The former United midfielder was appointed interim head coach following the sacking of Rben Amorim earlier this month, with United wanting stability for the rest of the 2025-26 season. Carrick’s reign has begun in eye-catching fashion, with consecutive victories over Premier League heavyweights Manchester City and Arsenal — results that have catapulted United into the top four and revived hope among supporters.
When asked about his long-term managerial ambitions — including whether he dreams of being appointed permanently — Carrick was measured, emphasising the need to concentrate on building consistency and confidence within the squad rather than looking beyond the immediate challenges.
"I am here to do a job," Carrick said on Sunday after Manchester United beat table-toppers Arsenal 3-2 in London.
"When I came here less than two weeks ago, I said we would make every decision for the bigger picture.
"We are not getting carried away. It is two huge results, but we will keep our feet on the ground.
