Mentally challenged man in Bengaluru kills wife, walks into police station to surrender

A mentally challenged man in Bengaluru, suspected of having symptoms of Schizophrenia, smothered his wife to death, calmly walked into the Anekal Police Station, confessed to the crime and surrendered. Police said Mallesh may be subjected to tests to check his mental stability.
Mallesh, a mentally challenged 35-year-old man, surrendered before the police after killing his wife in Bengaluru on Tuesday. Mallesh is suspected to have symptoms of schizophrenia, reported the New Indian Express.
He killed his wife, Saraswathi (33), because he suspected that she had hatched a plot to have him murdered. He had also assumed that she was having an affair with his brother. Despite his wife telling him that it wasn’t the case, he still wasn’t convinced.
Mallesh, who runs a laundry, is a resident of Thimmarayaswamy Temple Road in Anekal. Police suspect that he smothered his wife to death on Monday night.
Mallesh was also involved in a similar incident two years ago, reported the New Indian Express. He had told police that some political leaders and others were trying to kill him. The Anekal Police had to trace everyone he named and summon them, only to realise some of them did not even know Mallesh.
An officer investigating the case of Mallesh killing his wife said, “After surrendering, he created a scene, saying the police are planning to kill him in a fake encounter. He suspected his own lawyer friend of hatching a plot to kill him on the court premises, and requested the court to send him away. Later, a government advocate was provided for him.”
The officer added that Mallesh may be subjected to tests to check his mental stability in the prison.
After Mallesh smothered his wife, he calmly walked into the police station and claimed that he had killed his wife. The Annekal Police, who filed a case of murder under Section 302 of the IPC, suspect that Mallesh has psychological issues.
