Over 200 Hindu activists removed by police in Erode and Salem for protesting arrest of priest in Bangladesh.
Over 200 members of various Hindu outfits, including Hindu Munnani, were removed by the police in Erode and Salem districts on Wednesday for staging protests against the arrest of a priest and demanding protection for Hindus in Bangladesh.
Over 150 members took part in the protest held at Veerappanchatiram in Erode. They claimed that on the first day after Nobel Peace laureate Muhammad Yunus took charge as interim leader in Bangladesh, attacks on Hindus and temples began. So far 49 Hindus were attacked, and 1,500 Hindu teachers were removed from service. “The temporary government in Bangladesh failed to take action and indeed supported the violence against the Hindus,” they claimed and condemned the arrest of a monk.
The members wanted the interim government to take concrete steps to protest Hindus. They also condemned the State government for failing to give permission for the protest. A total of 107 members, including 22 women, were removed from the protest site and lodged in a marriage hall.
In Salem city, protesters raised slogans against the Bangladesh interim government and wanted the inhumane act to be stopped immediately. Over 120 members were removed for staging protest without permission.
