An official statement here said MCC Commissioner Ashaad Ur Rahman Sharief had informed a progress review meeting presided over by Secretary in-charge of Mysuru district S. Selva Kumar on Tuesday that five wards in MCC were receiving water 24 hours a day.

Though the five wards receiving round the clock water supply in Mysuru were identified, the MCC Commissioner said a Detailed Project Report (DPR) worth ₹260 crore was being prepared to ensure water supply on all seven days a week to the remaining wards. When the project is implemented, water can be supplied for 24 hours in a day in the next 2-3 years, the statement added.

Mysuru was was currently receiving 320 million litres of water (MLD) per day out of which 220-230 MLD was being distributed to residents of the city.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sharief also pointed out that Mysuru city was generating about 550 tonnes of waste every day out of which about 150 tonnes was being processed daily.

Mr. Kumar was also informed that the production of cocoons had increased and the government cocoon market at Bandipalya in Mysuru was receiving about 2-3 tonnes every day.

In view of the shortage of space, officials of Department of Sericulture, who were in correspondence with the Commissioner of Sericulture, had written to the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) of Bandipalya for allocation of an additional plot of land for the cocoon market. However, APMC authorities had cited non-availability of land as a new water treatment plant, air-conditioning unit and a solid waste management unit were also coming up in the APMC yard in Bandipalya spread across 30 acres.
