A 50-year-old woman was found dead in southwest Bengaluru’s Kengeri in the early hours of Monday, the police said.
The deceased has been identified as Kempamma, a resident of Mylasandra near Kengeri. Kempamma was separated from her husband and had been living alone for years.
Anitha B. Haddannavar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Southwest Division, told The Hindu that the body was found in a bylane near Mylasandra Cross that leads to Mysore Road. A passerby saw the body and alerted the police through the helpline, she added.
A preliminary police probe suggested that the death was caused by a fatal blow to her head, resulting in a deep cut. The police are yet to establish whether she was murdered elsewhere and the body was disposed of at the spot, or if she was murdered where she was found.
“Blood marks were found at the crime scene, indicating that she may have been murdered there itself, but we did not find the murder weapon,” an investigator in the case said.
The Kengeri police have registered an FIR under BNS Section 103(1), which deals with murder, and have launched an investigation. They are reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity to trace Kempamma’s movements before the murder.
