Margot Robbie showcased Elizabeth Taylor's legendary Taj Mahal diamond necklace at the Wuthering Heights premiere in Los Angeles. This historic jewellery piece links Hollywood glamour with Mughal dynasty heritage and timeless love stories.
Actor Margot Robbie has been serving full-blown old-world glamour while promoting her upcoming film Wuthering Heights, co-starring Jacob Elordi -- and her latest red carpet appearance may be her most memorable yet.
At the film’s world premiere on Wednesday, January 28, held at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, the actor turned heads in a sculptural Schiaparelli couture gown. But it wasn’t the dress alone that sparked conversation.
What truly stole the spotlight was Robbie’s jewellery choice. The 35-year-old actor stepped out wearing Elizabeth Taylor’s iconic heart-shaped Taj Mahal diamond necklace -- a historic piece valued at $8 million (approximately Rs 74 crore), according to People.
The necklace, set on a gold and ruby Cartier chain, was originally gifted to Taylor by her fifth husband, actor Richard Burton, on her 40th birthday more than five decades ago. Robbie’s decision to wear the heirloom felt like a deliberate nod to Old Hollywood extravagance and legendary love stories.
Taylor and Burton famously met on the sets of Cleopatra in 1962 while both were married to other people, and their tempestuous romance went on to dominate headlines worldwide.
The diamond itself carries a history that stretches far beyond Hollywood. The heart-shaped, table-cut gem features a Parsi inscription reading “Love is Everlasting”, along with the name Nur Jahan. Historians believe it was originally gifted by Mughal Emperor Jahangir to his wife Nur Jahan and later passed down to their son, Shah Jahan.
