The revising committee of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) is expected to watch Vijay's Jana Nayagan on March 17. The film was supposed to release in January 2026, but was postponed due to non-issuance of a censor certificate.
Thalapathy Vijay's Jana Nayagan is expected to be watched by the revising committee of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on Tuesday, March 17. Earlier, the screening was scheduled for March 9, but it was cancelled after a member fell ill. Sources revealed that the CBFC will go ahead with the screening tomorrow. The film was stuck in a month-long legal standoff court battle over non-issuance of the censor certificate.
KVN Production, the production house, reportedly received an official e-mail regarding the screening.
Jana Nayagan was slated for a grand release on January 9. However, the film was postponed when the CBFC withheld the certificate citing certain scenes which could affect the religious sentiments of a section of people. Further, a member who watched the film filed a complaint alleging that the film contains Army-related references, but a defence expert was not a part of the group that watched the film.
Following this, the makers of Jana Nayagan approached the court on January 6, seeking to expedite the process. This move resulted in a month-long standoff between Jana Nayagan team and the CBFC. However, the team withdrew the case and agreed to send the film to the revising committee.
The release of Jana Nayagan still remains uncertain. With the film containing some political messages, it is to be seen if the Election Commission of India would permit the release of the film with the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled for April 23.
Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, is a political thriller featuring Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Pooja Hegde, and Narain. The film features music by Anirudh Ravichander and cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan.
