Hasan Jahangir recently revealed how much his 1987 song Hawa Hawa earned from Dhurandhar. He even shared that the makers had sought permission for the rights of the track.
Pakistani singer Hasan Jahangir recently confirmed that he has received $50,000 for the use of his classic track Hawa Hawa in a recent film. Although the singer did not mention the film, he said that the movie went on to make Rs 1100 crore. Fans quickly decoded that the film in reference is none other than Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar.
The song played during a key scene introducing Sanjay Dutt’s character SP Chaudhary Aslam, adding a notable retro touch to the spy thriller.
Jahangir confirmed the transaction during an appearance on ARY Digital’s Shan e Sahoor, reiterating that proper permissions and payment were secured before the song’s inclusion.
“Ek film abhi bani hai Rs 300 crore ki and it earned Rs 1100 crore. They gave me 50,000 dollars (A film was recently made on a 300 crore budget and it earned 1,100 crore. They gave me $50,000),” Jahangir said.

When asked about him being given credit for the song, the singer said, "Yes, I have been credited for the song. Earlier, there was no copyright system. But now, whoever wants to use my songs first takes permission and also pays for it. Hawa Hawa came out 40 years ago. I recorded it in 1986, and it was released in 1987.”
