A young man was brutally attacked with an axe as he was preparing to receive his cousin sister's wedding procession in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district, triggering chaos and panic at a venue that had been filled with celebration just moments earlier. The assault was so severe that the victim, Krishna Kumar, had to be taken to the hospital with the axe deeply lodged in his head.
The incident took place in Mohanpur Mafi village under the Payagpur police station limits on Tuesday. Just hours before the assault, there was jubilation at the home of Mulak Ram Nishad. It was his daughter's wedding, and preparations for the marriage were in full swing. As Krishna was about to receive the baraat (wedding procession accompanying the groom), a village resident sneaked in from behind and attacked him with an axe.
The attacker, identified as Rajan Chauhan, then fled the spot. Locals said Rajan had an axe to grind with Krishna. The exact motive, however, is unknown.
The blow landed directly on Krishna's head, and the axe got lodged deep into his skull. He collapsed on the spot, leading to panic at the venue. Krishna was rushed to the nearby community health centre as villagers watched in horror. After administering first aid, he was sent to Maharaja Suheldev Medical College in Bahraich.
However, there too, doctors assessed that removing the axe could be extremely risky. After preliminary treatment, doctors referred him to the Trauma Centre in Lucknow for advanced care. Hospital sources said Krishna's condition was serious.
Back in Payagpur, police have begun an investigation into the horrific attack. A case has been registered against Chauhan, and teams have been formed to nab him. An initial probe has suggested that the attack might have been carried out due to an old dispute.

India on Monday said it has not held bilateral talks with the United States on deploying naval vessels to secure merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The clarification came after US President Donald Trump urged countries to send warships to keep the strategic waterway open amid tensions with Iran.
