Private financier arrested for killing Sri Lankan Tamil over financial dispute in Walajah town, Ranipet; probe ongoing.
A 43-year-old private financier was arrested in Walajah town in Ranipet for killing a Sri Lankan Tamil over a financial dispute on Tuesday.
Police said that the accused was identified as S. Kameesh, a native of Walajah town. He was involved in money lending business. Initial inquiry revealed that Kameesh got acquainted with the victim K. Chandini, 42, a Sri Lankan Tamil, when she was working in a hotel at Anaicut in Vellore, a few years ago. After getting separated from her husband, she was supporting her two children by working at the hotel.
Police said that Kameesh used to meet her regularly and also helped her with money during emergencies over the years. On Tuesday, an argument broke out between them when Chandini demanded money for her son’s marriage.
In a fit of rage, Kameesh stabbed Chandini at her house near Walajah town. She was found lying in a pool of blood. As her children cried for help, neighbours rushed to the house and alerted the Walajah police. She was taken to the Government Taluk Hospital in Walajah where doctors declared her dead on arrival. A case was registered. Later, the police arrested Kameesh, who was lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. A probe is underway.
