A Republic Day celebration in Maihar district in Madhya Pradesh led to the suspension of a school principal after students were served food on torn notebook pages, prompting a probe and administrative action.
During Republic Day celebrations at a government high school in Bhatigawan village, Maihar district, students were served 'halwa and puris' on sheets torn from old notebooks instead of plates.
The incident came to light after a video showing children eating food placed on these papers while sitting on the ground circulated on social media, leading to public concern about hygiene and school procedures.
Authorities responded quickly, launching an official enquiry into the matter. The acting principal, Sushil Kumar Tripathi, faced immediate suspension following the incident for alleged negligence related to the event.
"In-charge principal Sushil Kumar Tripathi of Government High School Bhatigawan has been suspended with immediate effect for negligence in organising a special Republic Day lunch programme at the school," said Rewa Division Commissioner B S Jamod.
Maihar Collector Rani Batad took note of the situation and ordered a formal probe.
The collector stated that strict action would be taken against all those responsible, demonstrating the seriousness with which local authorities are treating the incident.
