Prime Minister Modi meets Poornachandran's widow and children, expressing condolences and addressing community concerns in Madurai.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met Indumathi, widow of Poornachandran, who had died by suicide, “upset” over the Karthigai deepam not being lit at the newly identified deepathon (pillar) atop Thirupparankumdran hills in December last year.
Before addressing a public meeting organised by the NDA in Madurai, Mr. Modi offered darshan at Thirupparankundram temple, the first abode of Lord Murugan.
“It was a divine experience. I prayed for the prosperity of Tamil Nadu and the country,” Mr. Modi said.
He said he was pained on knowing the “sacrifice of the young yogi” Poornachandran.
“I offered my deepest condolences to Indumathi and her two little children. It is painful that the insensitivity of the DMK Government had led to (the death of Poornachandran). No matter what the DMK does, the truth will win and the devotees of Lord Murugan will win,” he said.
The Prime Minister, who addressed in English, began his speech with the slogan “Vetrivel ... Veeravel” (hailing Lord Murugan).
