
Laser beam near Hyderabad airport runway triggers security alert, case registered

The sighting, reported by the Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower, led the Airport Operations Centre (APOC) to alert the local police, authorities said.
A laser beam was spotted near one of the runways at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, prompting the authorities to spring into action.
It was seen emanating near the south end of Runway 09R, per an official release. The incident took place on Saturday evening.

Laser beams pose a grave danger to commercial and military aircraft due to their highly directional nature.
They may cause discomfort, disorientation and/or distraction for pilots during critical flight phases such as landing, takeoff, approach, and emergency manoeuvres.
