A man alleged that he was denied entry in one of the branches of the State Bank of India(SBI) due to his attire. The man from Kolkata, who is identified as Ashish, took to Twitter to share his grievance and it has gone viral online. Hey @TheOfficialSBI went to one of your branch today wearing shorts, was told that I need to come back wearing full pants as the branch expects customers to "maintain decency"Is there some sort of an official policy on what a customer can wear and cannot wear? SBI has no problem if you roam NUDE also but thing is they are worried about their Customers who might take this as offensive..So yeah there are clothes designed for every where. I am sure you don't go to office or Wedding in Shorts do you ? So why not wear something decent? Shorts arent indecent anywhre. Also, bank isn't a swmg pool, but not much differnt frm market, another public place,u can wear it there. Any public decency or law wont prohibit it. Its people's ego who think others should appear properly in front of them bcoz they r above everyone. Correct. One should go in formals, as it will be awkward for rest of customer My dad, I and many others were wearing full pants and still have to wait 3 hours to get work done bcz sbi officials were having "lunch". We citizens should follow some decency in going to Bank branches and other public places. It us not like going to a chai shop or mithaiwala. Let him enter a Citibank branch with shorts and a T shirt. The youngsters of gen next has no value ethics now . what next ? wearing a dog collar like slave ? Or wearing specific brand coat-suite ? even if there is no policy, banking is serious business place not a fun place.Instesd of making it sensetntional simply be decent to other customers.Being decent is quite simple man. Close you account and find a different bank.. Yes that’s one of the formally accepted attires of India they can ask. You have or no? Hope you atleast have trousers. well this is new. just wondering what work was asked of them that they got so upset to sermonise about attire’s now! We understand and respect your concern. Let us take an opportunity to clarify that there is no policy or prescribed dress code for our customers. They can dress up as per their choice and may consider the locally acceptable norms/tradition/culture for a public place like (1/2) bank branch. We request you to share the branch code/ name where you faced this issue. We will look into this. (2/2) Hello @TheOfficialSBII have with me Mr Joy Chakraborty ( CM Admin of the region ) with me, they came to my home and have taken care of the Issue.I would like to close this complaint and do not want any action against the staff. https://t.co/Dtw7gH9VwB
In his Twitter post, Ashish said he was wearing a pair of shorts while entering the bank. However, the staff at the bank asked him to come back wearing full pants as "they expected a certain level of decency".
