Kerala woman gets 10 years rigorous punishment for abetting rape of daughter

A Kerala court convicted a 50-year-old woman for abetting the repeated rape of her minor 16-year-old daughter. The court sentenced her to 10 years of rigorous punishment, observing that she deserved no leniency.
A 50-year-old woman in Kerala has been convicted in a case for abetting the repeated rape of her 16-year-old daughter. She was sentenced to ten years of rigorous punishment. The court observed that the mother, who is bound to protect her child, had exploited and ruined her life by taking advantage of the fact that the child's father was bedridden.
The mother, a Kayanadu native from Muvattupuzha, and her friend Arun Kumar (36), are the ones convicted in the case. Arun Kumar has been punished with imprisonment of 20 years and a fine of Rs 2 lakh. The court observed that the woman deserved no leniency.
The girl was raped multiple times during the period of March 2017 to August 2017. Arun Kumar was a regular visitor and he had taken the girl to Pallivasal in Idukki where she was sexually assaulted. During investigations, it was discovered that the mother had abetted this.
"She is the mother of a female child. She who should have been her protector became the one who abetted the assault," said the court. The convicts were found guilty of grievous offences under various sections of the IPC, the POCSO Act and the Juvenile Justice Act. The fine amount from the convicts will be paid to the victim.
