Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra has approached the Delhi High Court challenging a Saket Court order that denied her interim custody of her pet Rottweiler dog, Henry, in the case titled Jai Anant Dehadrai versus Mahua Moitra.
Moitra had sought interim custody of Henry for 10 days every month. However, the Saket Court rejected her plea on November 10, 2025.
Justice Manoj Kumar Ohri on Thursday issued notice to her former partner, advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai, and sought his response. The matter will now be heard on April 29. Dehadrai appeared before the Court in person and urged that Moitra’s plea be dismissed in limine.
In her appeal, Moitra argued that the trial court order was “bad in law and fact” as it failed to consider that Henry was given to her “to be loved and cared for” and primarily resided at her residence. She said that the dog stayed with Dehadrai only when she was out of station for her constituency duties.
She further contended that the impugned order does not record any finding that Dehadrai is the owner of the dog and wrongly treats payment as sufficient proof of ownership. According to her plea, specific evidence filed with the plaint, including certification from the kennel owner and kennel club, shows that the pet was with her. She claimed the payment for the dog was made by Dehadrai on her behalf.
The custody dispute comes amid a prolonged legal battle between the two.
