CJ Roy, founder and chairman of Confident Group, was found dead in Bengaluru following Income Tax raids on his company's offices. Police suspect suicide and have registered a case.
CJ Roy, founder and chairman of real estate firm Confident Group, has shot himself dead at his office in Bengaluru, allegedly due to fear of raids by the Income Tax Department in what police suspect to be a case of suicide.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday, came hours after Income Tax officials conducted searches at the offices of the Kerala-based company in the city's Richmond Road area. Sources said the action was part of a probe into alleged assets disproportionate to known sources of income.
Police said Roy sustained a gunshot injury from his licenced firearm, leading investigators to believe he may have shot himself.
A gunshot was heard inside the house, following which staff members rushed to his room and found him lying in a pool of blood, sources told news agency PTI.
Officers said no final conclusion would be drawn until the post-mortem examination and forensic analysis are complete.
A case has been registered, and police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
