Incessant rains in Karnataka cause chaos, fatalities, and disruptions, with monsoon arriving earlier and more intensely than last year.
Incessant rains battered several parts of coastal and south-interior Karnataka, with the monsoon arriving earlier and more intensely than last year, affecting normal life on Monday (May 26, 2025). Four rain-related deaths were reported in various parts of Karnataka since late Sunday till Monday evening.
A three-year-old girl, Keerti Nagesh Patil, died when a wall collapsed on her in Gokak of Belagavi district early on Monday morning.
Two people from Bengaluru died on the spot and two suffered injuries after their car met with an accident on NH 75 near Bage in Sakleshpur taluk of Chikkamagaluru district on Monday. Heavy rains are said to be one of the causes of the accident. The deceased were identified as Abhishek, 27, and Sharath, 28. They were on their way to Dharmasthala along with two others.
In another incident, also reported from Chikkamagaluru district, late on Sunday, a person died after a tree fell on the autorickshaw he was riding near Gadikal in Koppa taluk.
In Malnad and coastal regions, roads remain flooded, traffic movement disrupted, and many areas plunged into darkness owing to disruption in power supply as electricity poles were uprooted owing to gusty winds. There have been reports of several houses damaged in these regions.
The Dakshina Kannada district administration on Monday declared holiday for all pre-university colleges, schools, and anganwadis in the district on Tuesday and Wednesday in view of heavy rains.
The Chikkamagaluru district administration declared a holiday for anganwadis till Wednesday in taluks that are receiving heavy rains. The administration advised tourists and others not to go for trekking and get into rivers.
