
Karnataka Budget 2026: 182 tanks in Chikkaballapur district to be filled under Hebbala-Nagawara Valley project

Karnataka's 2026 budget allocates funds to fill 182 tanks in Chikkaballapur and 59 in Hosakote, enhancing irrigation.
A total of 164 tanks will be filled in the third phase of the Hebbala-Nagawara Valley project, including 45 tanks in Sidlaghatta taluk and 119 tanks in Chintamani taluk in Chikkaballapur district, from Amanikere at an estimated cost of ₹237 crore, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced during presentation of the Karnataka Budget on March 6.
Additionally, a lift irrigation scheme will fill 59 tanks in Sulibele and Nandagudi hoblis in Hosakote taluk using treated sewage water from the H.N. Valley project at a cost of ₹140 crore.
As part of the second phase of the Vrishabhavathi Valley project, which aims to fill 259 tanks with 308 MLD of treated sewage water from Bengaluru city, 119 tanks in Nelamangala and Doddaballapur taluks will be filled from Lift-4 Gopalapura tank, at an estimated cost of ₹650 crore, the CM said.
During 2025-26, the government had approved 112 projects including lift irrigation, check dams, and rejuvenation and development of tanks across Karnataka, with a total estimated investment of ₹1,793 crore. To ensure sustainable management, water user societies under the department will be strengthened to protect and maintain these tanks, Mr. Siddaramaiah added.
