
Joe Biden nominates Indian-American Rupa Ranga Puttagunta as judge of DC District Court

Indian-American Rupa Ranga Puttagunta has been nominated by US President Joe Biden as a federal judge. If confirmed, Judge Rupa Ranga Puttagunta will become the first Asian American and Pacific Islander woman to serve on the US District Court for the District of DC.
US President Joe Biden on Tuesday announced his intent to nominate Indian-American Rupa Ranga Puttagunta as a federal judge. Indian-American Rupa Ranga Puttagunta featured in a list among 10 other diverse picks for top judicial positions. Among the nominations, 10 are for Federal Circuit and District Court judge posts, and one is for Superior Court Judge for the District of Columbia. If confirmed by the US Senate, Judge Rupa Ranga Puttagunta will become the first Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) woman to serve on the US District Court for the District of DC, the White House said in a statement.
The profiles of at least three of China's leading nuclear, missile and radar experts were scrubbed from the website of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the country's most prestigious academic body. This comes as a series of purges under Premier Xi Jinping's anti-corruption campaign have decimated the upper echelons of China's military and scientific community.
