Condemning the disparaging statement about 12th-century social reformer Basaveshwara by legislator Basangouda Patil Yatnal, the Kalaburagi district unit of Jagatika Lingayat Mahasabha has demanded his expulsion from BJP and urged immediate action from the State government.
Mahasabha district president Prabhuling Mahagaonkar and its secretary R.G. Shetgar addressing presspersons here on Friday said that Mr. Yatnal had insulted the cultural leader Basaveshwara by making a baseless statement during a protest rally at Bidar. Mr. Yatnal, addressing protesting farmers had commented that ‘Basavanna jumped into the river and died’. Mr. Shetgar remarked that Mr. Yatnal was without any knowledge about Vachana Sahitya or Basaveshwara’s life.
The Mahasabha would lodge a complaint against Mr. Yatnal and launch a statewide protest demanding stern action against him.
