Police said the three accused carried out the attack for Rs 20,000 on ISI instructions, with DIG Sandeep Goel confirming Pakistan-based handlers and Rs 3,000 advance payment to one of them.
The killing of two Punjab Police personnel who were shot dead inside a border outpost in Punjab's Gurdaspur in the early hours of Sunday was an attack that investigators say bears the imprint of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Deputy Inspector General of Police (Border Range) Sandeep Goel said on Wednesday that preliminary findings suggest the killings were carried out at the behest of ISI handlers.
According to police, the three accused acted for a promised payment of Rs 20,000 from Pakistan-based handlers. "They acted on the instructions of the ISI and committed the crime for money," the officer said.
DIG Goel confirmed that the accused had been in touch with Pakistan-based and ISI-backed operatives. He added that one of them had already received Rs 3,000 as an advance.
One of the three accused has been killed in a police encounter, another has been arrested, and the third remains at large as security has been tightened across the sensitive belt near the India–Pakistan border.
The incident took place at the Dorangla police outpost in Adhian village, around two kilometres from the international border in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district.

India on Monday said it has not held bilateral talks with the United States on deploying naval vessels to secure merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The clarification came after US President Donald Trump urged countries to send warships to keep the strategic waterway open amid tensions with Iran.
