Alongside Jagmohan Dalmiya, he played a key role in transforming Indian cricket into a billion-dollar industry, shaping the modern financial and commercial landscape of the sport. His contributions spanned decades, leaving a lasting impact on domestic and international cricket.
ICC chairman Jay Shah paid tribute, expressing his condolences on X, saying, “Deepest condolences on the passing of Mr. I S Bindra, former BCCI president and a stalwart of Indian cricket administration. May his legacy inspire future generations. Om Shanti.”
Bindra’s passing marks the end of an era in Indian cricket governance.
Bindra was a highly respected and influential figure in Indian cricket administration, celebrated for his long-standing leadership and transformative impact on the sport at both domestic and international levels.
He served as the President of the PCA from 1978 to 2014, during which he played a pivotal role in developing cricket infrastructure in Punjab. Bindra oversaw the construction of the Mohali Cricket Stadium, now one of India’s premier international venues. In recognition of his immense contributions, the stadium was renamed the IS Bindra Stadium in 2015.
