The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert (extremely heavy rainfall above 204.5 mm) for coastal Karnataka on May 20 and May 21 and until 8.30 a.m. on May 22. Later, a yellow alert (heavy rainfall ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm) was sounded for the coastal belt until 8.30 a.m. on May 26.
Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district administrations, on Monday, asked fishermen not to venture into the sea until May 23 due to adverse weather conditions. They also asked the fishermen at sea to return to the ports.
