Congress leader urges Maharashtra CM to implement Supreme Court verdict on TAIT-2022, addressing injustices faced by OBC candidates.
Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar on Thursday (April 9, 2026) wrote a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, asking him to implement the Supreme Court of India verdict in the TAIT-2022 teacher recruitment process, highlighting the alleged injustice faced by OBC candidates.
Mr. Wadettiwar demanded immediate implementation of the Supreme Court’s decision, saying, “Due to the wrong decision of the State government’s education department, about 8000 OBC and other candidates have been excluded from the recruitment process despite having merit.”
“Candidates who had taken 5% relaxation in the TET exam, but had scored more marks than the open category candidates in the TAIT exam, were declared ineligible for open category posts. This decision is unconstitutional and unjust,” Mr. Vadettiwar stated in the letter.
Referring to the March 23, 2026, ruling in the ‘Chhaya and Others vs State of Maharashtra’ case, the Supreme Court’s verdict on the petition ‘Chhaya and Others vs. State of Maharashtra’, he said that it is mandatory to include reserved candidates scoring more marks than the last candidate in the open category in the merit list of the open category. The Supreme Court has ruled that the denial of transfer of candidates to the open category is illegal and unconstitutional.
Mr. Vadettiwar has made the following four major demands to the government: the entire merit list in the TAIT-2022 teacher recruitment process should be reviewed immediately, the revised merit list should be announced immediately, the reserve candidates who score more marks should be included in the open category, and the vacancies should be filled immediately.
