The ABC Summer Art Spread will showcase over 400 works of art
The Art Bengaluru Collective (ABC) celebrates its tenth show in the heart of the city this weekend. Titled, ABC Summer Art Spread, the event will not only present the creative efforts of over 35 artists, but also host a myriad of interactive events at the the venue.
In the four years since their inception, the Art Bengaluru Collective (ABC) has been quite busy, building a community of artists and creating awareness of various art forms. “Since 2022, we have organised eight gallery shows, two viewings in partnership with Sunday Soul Santhe, and one each at Chitrakala Parishath and Bangalore International Centre. This time, for our tenth multi-art event, we are hosting a santhe of our own,” says Rasheed Kappan.
Rasheed, a journalist, founded ABC with theatre person Ranji David. Both artists in their own right, the duo believed such a forum would demystify art and “democratise access to art appreciation in a gallery setup”. All their shows till date, have been held at venues such as the Rangoli Metro Art Centre and Chitrakala Parishath which offer laymen a chance to walk in without feeling intimidated.
Rasheed says the Collective has close to 350 artists on board who take turns to showcase their work at every event. “We have built a community of artists, and this has led to a lot collaborations. Visitors can interact with artists at the venue and bond within the gallery space, which may not be possible at similar art-related events.”
ABC seems to be going all out for their tenth edition. To be held at the Rangoli Metro Art Centre, it will feature the works of over 35 artists specialising in different media; nearly 400 pieces of art ranging from paintings, sketches, installations, sculptures and more will be showcased. The event will be inaugurated by former Director General of Police Jija Harisingh on April 10.
“Apart from 25 stalls with art and art-related products, this year, we will also feature a fusion dance performance, an improv show, live art, and other performances apart from my own standup act Kappan‘Saucer and a food stall.”
