Hyderabad Police on Wednesday registered a case against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his and Wayanad Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi.
Based on the complaint lodged by Malkajgiri MP and (TPCC) president Anumula Revanth Reddy, the Jubilee Hills police sought legal advice and registered a case against Mr. Sarma under Sections 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 505(2) (Statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes) of the Indian Penal Code, Inspector S. Rajasekhar Reddy told The Hindu.
In his complaint, Mr. Revanth Reddy accused the Assam Chief Minister of making an obscene speech against Rahul Gandhi at a public meeting in Uttarakhand deliberately and in a preplanned manner to garner political mileage.
The election authorities are gearing up for the counting of votes cast in the simultaneous elections to Lok Sabha and Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh, scheduled to be held on June 4. The Collectors and Election Officers of Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli and Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) districts said on May 23 (Thursday) that their teams were ready for the counting of votes.
Responding to the prolonged water scarcity, the residents of the area took to the streets in protest on Wednesday. The protest, which drew attention to their plight, stopped only after the intervention of the police. It was not until 1.30 p.m. that a 4000-litre tanker was finally delivered by BWSSB, providing relief to the water-starved residents.
