Himanta Sarma compares Assam highway to F1 track, internet calls it AI video

Sarma rejected the "AI-generated claim", saying the clip reflects Assam's real infrastructure, while BJP leaders and Opposition figures traded barbs on social media.
A 26-second video posted by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday, showing a highway in the state resembling an F1 race track, has sparked a debate on social media, with several netizens alleging that the clip was generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The video, shared on the social media platform X, showed a stretch of smooth highway and carried a caption featuring a red cross mark next to the words “F1 Track” and a green tick alongside “Roads of Assam”. As the post gained traction through the day, many users questioned its authenticity, claiming the visuals appeared artificially generated.
Responding to the criticism, Sarma rejected the allegation and asserted that the video depicted real infrastructure in Assam. In a follow-up post, he shared another clip with the caption: “Artificial Intelligence (red X) Assam Infrastructure (green tick).” The second video shows a convoy of vehicles moving through a road lined with crowds waving BJP flags.

However, some users continued to dispute the chief minister’s claim, posting photographs of potholed roads and arguing that those reflected the actual condition of highways in the state. One user also shared a newspaper report carrying the headline: “Assam ranks third among Indian states having most damaged highways.”
Congress spokesperson Reetam Singh criticised the chief minister’s post, saying Sarma had “made a complete fool of himself and is now doubling down on his act of stupidity.”

India on Monday said it has not held bilateral talks with the United States on deploying naval vessels to secure merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The clarification came after US President Donald Trump urged countries to send warships to keep the strategic waterway open amid tensions with Iran.

This moment comes days after the Supreme Court allowed Harish Rana to die with dignity – a historic first court-ordered case of passive euthanasia in India. The court acknowledged the medical opinion that Rana will never recover and that the tubes that feed him and keep him alive are only prolonging his pain.
