The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at 32 locations in Tamil Nadu and Kerala in connection with October 2022 car blast in Coimbatore and at 8 locations Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka relating to the November 2022 Mangaluru autorickshaw blast. It led to “seizure of a large number of digital devices and cash amounting to ₹4 lakh,” the NIA said in a statement.
As part of probe into the Coimbatore car blast case, a total of 31 locations in Tamil Nadu including 14 in Coimbatore, three each at Tirunelveli and Chennai, two each at Tiruvannamalai and Nilgiris and one each at Tiruchi, Thoothukudi, Dindigul, Mayiladuthurai, Krishnagiri, Tenkasi and Kanniyakumari districts were searched.
Meanwhile, as part of investigation into the Mangaluru autorickshaw blast case, a total of three locations in Tamil Nadu, including two in Tiruppur and one in Coimbatore districts were searched.
Four girl students of Pilipatti Panchayat Union Middle School in Viralimalai taluk in Pudukotai district drowned to death in the Cauvery River near Mayanur in Karur district.
A group of 15 students from the government middle school were at Karur to participate in the State level Republic Day sports meet organised by the School Education Department. After playing a match, the students who were accompanied by two teachers, had gone to Mayanur to take bath in the Cauvery river, where the four girls were caught in the swirl.
The deceased were identified as V. Sofia (12), R. Tamilarasi (13), M. Iniya (11) and P. Lavanya (11). Chief Minister M.K. Stalin who condoled the deaths announced a solatium of ₹2 lakh each to the bereaved families. Meanwhile, the school headmaster Pothumani and two teachers, Thilagavathi and Ibrahim, who had accompanied the children, have been placed under suspension.
A DMK councillor of ward 1 of Nagojanahalli town panchayat in Krishnagiri district, A. Chinnasamy, was arrested for the murder of a 29-year-old army man, M. Prabhu after the latter succumbed to injuries inflicted by the councillor and his men, in an altercation late last night.
