Karnataka Today newsletter: Fact-checker Mohammed Zubair receives threats after address, number leaked
Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair filed a complaint with the Bengaluru police claiming to have received threats after the address of his home and mobile number were leaked on social media.
Unknown persons allegedly threatened to send pork to his home, he said in his complaint. “I am already facing threats to my life,” Mr. Zubair stated on his social media account.
Mr. Zubair has shared details of the X handles, including @Cyber_Huntss, that leaked his personal information. Mr. Zubair alleged that this was an attempt to promote enmity between religious groups. He has sought police protection.
Students from Karnataka achieved a 95.95% pass percentage in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) class 12 exams and 98.90% pass percentage in class 10. The results were announced on May 13.
The Bengaluru region, which includes Karnataka, stands fourth in class 12 among the 17 regions, with a pass percentage of 95.95% after Vijayawada (99.60%), Thiruvananthapuram (99.32%) and Chennai (97.39%). It stands second in class 10 results after Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada (both 99.79%).
Singer Sonu Nigam has approached the Karnataka High Court seeking to quash a criminal case registered against him over alleged offensive remarks made about the Kannadigas. Based on a complaint by T.A. Dharmaraj, president of the Bangalore City District Unit of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (Narayana Gowda faction), the Avalahalli police had lodged an FIR against the singer on May 3.
The petition was listed before the vacation bench of Justice Shivashankar Amarannavar, who deferred the matter for hearing to May 15. Despite issuing a public statement apologising for his comments during a live concert at an engineering college in Bengaluru, legal proceedings have continued, prompting the popular singer to file a plea for dismissal of the charges.
