
Hackathon for solutions to tackle human-animal conflict begins in Coimbatore

36-hour hackathon tackling human-animal conflict with innovative solutions, judged by IT and Forest Department experts for cash prizes.
A 36-hour hackathon organised by the Coimbatore Forest Division in collaboration with Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College began on Friday, in which participants came out with solutions to tackle human-animal conflict.
K.S Sathish, Regional Passport Officer, Coimbatore, inaugurated the hackathon themed ‘Innovative Solutions for Human-Animal Conflict’.
Organisers said the event aims to address the escalating challenge posed by human-animal conflict by developing innovative technological solutions, focus on tracking elephant movements, design alert systems, artificial intelligence-based solutions, and wildlife conservation measures.
A total of 21 teams, which were shortlisted from the 170 teams that appeared in the preliminary round held on February 28, are competing in the 36-hour event. Multi-disciplinary judges from IT and the Forest Department will evaluate the models and prototypes developed by the participants of the final round on Saturday. The best three solutions will be awarded cash prizes of ₹25,000, ₹15,000, and ₹10,000.
Chief Conservator of Forests and Field Director of Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR) D. Venkatesh took the lead for the event, with the support of District Forest Officer N. Jayaraj, Assistant Conservator of Forest (Headquarters) Girish Palwe, Forest Department biologists M. Naveen and J. Peter Prem Chakravarthy.
Principal of Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College A. Soundarrajan, professors M. Senthamilselvi, Geetha, P. Perumal and Rathi were present during the inauguration.
