Govt teachers in Bihar to be recruited through CTET, not STET

Govt teachers in Bihar to be recruited through CTET, not STET

India Today

Aspiring teachers in Bihar now only need to appear for CTET for government school recruitment in the state instead of appearing for both CTET and STET.

In a major decision by the Bihar government, it has decided that candidates aspiring to become a government school teacher in the state will not need to give a separate teacher recruitment test i.e. STET (State Teacher's Eligibility Test), and instead be recruited though CTET (Central Teacher's Eligibility Test) itself.

This would come as a big relief to teaching aspirants as now they would only need to clear CTET to be automatically eligible for a teaching post in Bihar government schools.

They will not need to appear for both CTET and STET anymore.

According to media reports, the Bihar government has given information about this decision to the Bihar School Examination Committee i.e. Bihar Board, which organises the teacher recruitment examination in the state.

The Bihar School Examination Committee will soon give this information to the Patna High Court as well.

The letter issued by Ravi Prakash, Director, Directorate of Primary Education, Government of Bihar, said:

“In the meeting held on 26 April 2022 in relation to the teacher eligibility test under the chairmanship of the Additional Chief Secretary, it has been decided that in the Bihar Panchayat Preliminary School Service Rules 2020, under the provisions made, the qualification prescribed for teacher appointment includes passing in the teacher eligibility test conducted by the Central or Bihar Government."
