Police found a diary in Aditi's room in which she wrote about an upcoming exam, uncertainty over where to start studying, and her gradual withdrawal from her social circle.
A 13-year-old girl was discovered dead inside her home in Haryana's Gurugram, with preliminary investigation pointing to suicide allegedly driven by academic pressure, police said on Thursday.
A diary recovered from the room suggested the teenager, identified as Aditi, was anxious about her studies and had begun distancing herself from friends, news agency PTI reported. In one entry, she wrote that she had an exam scheduled for Thursday and felt unsure about where to begin preparing.
The incident came to light on Wednesday night. Aditi had gone to sleep in her room, but when her mother tried to wake her the next morning, the door was locked from inside. After repeated calls went unanswered, her mother looked through a window and found her hanging from the ceiling fan with a noose around her neck.
Police were alerted immediately. The body was taken into custody and sent for postmortem examination.
A senior police officer said the diary also mentioned her withdrawal from her social circle, pointing to emotional distress linked to academic pressure.
Aditi had shifted from Lucknow to Gurugram in April 2025. She was studying in Class 9 at a private school here. Her mother is employed with a government department in Hardoi, while her father works with a private firm in Bengaluru.

India on Monday said it has not held bilateral talks with the United States on deploying naval vessels to secure merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The clarification came after US President Donald Trump urged countries to send warships to keep the strategic waterway open amid tensions with Iran.

This moment comes days after the Supreme Court allowed Harish Rana to die with dignity – a historic first court-ordered case of passive euthanasia in India. The court acknowledged the medical opinion that Rana will never recover and that the tubes that feed him and keep him alive are only prolonging his pain.
