The makers of upcoming web series Scam 2003: The Telgi Story announced their lead actor. SonyLiv and Applause Entertainment have roped in Gagan Dev Riar to play the role of the scamster Abdul Karim Telgi. The series is directed by Hansal Mehta and produced by Applause Entertainment. The OTT platform unveiled the motion poster of Scam 2003 on Monday, May 23, and announced their lead actor on Tuesday, May 24.
Hansal Mehta created quite a stir with the success of Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta story. Their second series in the Scam franchise titled Scam 2003: The Telgi Story, is based on the 2003 Stamp Paper Scam by Abdul Karim Telgi. While, Pratik Gandhi aced the role of Harshad Mehta, now the creative and casting teams have found their lead actor in Gagan Dev Riar to play Telgi, the fruit seller who built an empire by counterfeiting stamp papers. Gagan is a veteran theatre artist, who has earlier worked in Sonchiriya and A Suitable Boy.
The official Instagram handle of SonyLiv shared the news. "Telgi has been found. Starring Gagan Dev Riar as Telgi, Produced by Applause Entertainment in association with StudioNext, Scam 2003: The Telgi Story will be helmed by show runner Hansal Mehta and director Tushar Hiranandani. Casting by Mukesh Chhabra (sic)," read the note.
After more than a year of announcing Scam 2003, a sequel to Scam 1992, finally the makers have some news to share on the web series. The official Instagram page of SonyLiv shared the motion poster of Scam 2003. "Stay Tuned. #Scam2003 (sic)," read the caption.
According to a source, makers will unveil the cast of the series on Tuesday, May 24.
Scam 1992's sequel is tentatively titled Scam 2003: The Curious Case of Abdul Karim Telgi. While the first season was based on the 1992 Indian stock market scam, the second season will follow the story of Abdul Karim Telgi, the man behind the 2003 Stamp Paper Scam. Directed by Hansal Mehta, the series is based on the book Reporter ki Diary, written by journalist Sanjay Singh, who broke the story of the scam in 2003.
