Fitness inspection of school, college buses to begin on June 1 in Puducherry

Puducherry Transport Dept. to hold special fitness camps for school buses on June 1-2 at Mettupalayam Truck Terminal.
The Puducherry Transport Department will organise special camps for fitness inspections of buses belonging to educational institutions, on June 1 and 2 at the Mettupalayam Truck Terminal.
Deputy Transport Commissioner, A. Kumaran said that around 900 vehicles belonging to schools and colleges would be inspected and certified at the camp. The department has constituted four teams under Motor Vehicle Inspector/Assistant Motor Vehicles Inspector to check the roadworthiness of the vehicles.
The fitness of vehicles will be checked and accordingly, stickers reflecting the roadworthiness of the vehicle will be affixed on the buses. Special camps will also be held in Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam regions, a press release said.
“All educational institutions and owners of vehicles are requested to produce their vehicles for inspection. The inspection is being organised as per the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court to ensure safety of students,” Mr Kumaran said.
The Shakti Scheme in Karnataka has completed its first year, yet the smart cards intended for the beneficiaries remain undistributed. According to Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, while the smart cards have been prepared, their issuance has been stalled due to the absence of electronic ticketing machines (ETMs) in all buses, making them impractical.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R. Ashok were engaged in war of words over the Lok Sabha election results on Tuesday, with the former calling the latter “ignorant and entertaining people”. In response, Mr. Ashok said the Chief Minister “sometimes wakes up from deep slumber to exhibit his arrogance and anger”.
Makineni Jishnu Sai from Guntur secured the first position in the engineering stream while Yellu Srishant Reddy from Nizampet in Telangana bagged the first place in the Agriculture and Pharmacy (Bi.P.C. stream) in the Andhra Pradesh Engineering, Agriculture and Pharmacy Common Entrance Test (EAPCET)-2024.
