Elon Musk calls Anthropic Claude AI evil and misanthropic, says it hates men

Elon Musk calls Anthropic Claude AI evil and misanthropic, says it hates men

India Today

If something doesn't go Elon Musk's way, he rarely holds back from calling it out, or attacking it with words on social media. And right now, Anthropic seems to be one of his sore points. In a recent post reacting to the company's fresh funding round, Musk bluntly called it "woke" and accused its AI of hating men and certain demographic groups.

There are quite a few sore points for Elon Musk at the moment, and one of them is Anthropic. The xAI CEO has been throwing jabs at the AI rival over its ideology and “constitution”, repeatedly calling it “woke”. And the tension between the two only seems to be escalating. This time, Musk labelled Anthropic’s Claude chatbot “misanthropic and evil”, accusing it of demographic bias. The latest remark from the Tesla and xAI boss came shortly after Anthropic announced it had raised $30 billion in fresh funding at a reported $380 billion post-money valuation.

Responding directly to Anthropic’s celebratory post about the funding round, Musk wrote that the company is woke, biased and misanthropic, attacking its Greek-derived name, which relates to humanity, and suggesting it had become anti-human.

“Your AI hates Whites & Asians, especially Chinese, heterosexuals and men. This is misanthropic and evil. Fix it,” he wrote. “Frankly, I don’t think there is anything you can do to escape the inevitable irony of Anthropic ending up being Misanthropic. You were doomed to this fate when you chose your name.”

Notably, Musk’s rivalry with Anthropic is not just about Grok versus Claude. The xAI boss has, in fact, been openly critical of Anthropic for quite a while and for multiple reasons. Earlier this year, Anthropic cut off xAI’s access to its Claude models through the coding platform Cursor, citing concerns that its technology was being used to enhance a direct competitor. The move reportedly followed internal reviews of usage patterns and enforcement of terms that prohibit customers from using Claude to develop competing AI systems.

And, of course, the ban did not sit well with Musk. He publicly criticised the decision as “not good for their karma”. “Not quite on programming, but it will excel in other areas. Anthropic has done something special with coding. It was a helpful motivator that they cut us off @xAI and not good for their karma,” he posted on X.

At the core of the dispute between Musk and Anthropic seems to be a philosophical clash over how AI systems should be built and governed. Anthropic follows what it calls the “Constitutional AI” approach, which uses a set of guiding principles designed to align models with human values and safety standards. As the company has previously explained, Claude’s constitution acts as a foundational document outlining the values it aims to embody and how it seeks to remain helpful while also being safe, ethical and compliant with its guidelines.
