Elon Musk and Grimes welcomed their second child, a baby girl, secretly in December last year via surrogacy. In an interview. Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, revealed her daughter’s name to be Exa Dark Sideræl Musk and also talked about its meaning.

She was actually in conversation with the magazine’s reporter when her baby girl started crying upstairs. Hesitantly, she revealed the birth of her second child. “She’s a little colicky too,” she said, laughing.
Talking about the name of her baby girl, she said it was Exa Dark Sideræl Musk. According to Grimes, Exa is a reference to the supercomputing term exaFLOPS (the ability to perform 1 quintillion floating-point operations per second). Meanwhile, Dark is “the unknown”. People fear it, but truly it’s the absence of photons. Dark matter is the beautiful mystery of our universe. Additionally, they also call her Y.
As far as the pronunciation is concerned, Grimes texted a voice memo to the reporter. So Sideræl is pronounced as “sigh-deer-ee-el”. She claims that it is “a more elven” spelling of sidereal, “the true time of the universe, star time, deep space time, not our relative earth time". It’s also a nod to her favorite Lord of the Rings character, the powerful Galadriel, who “chooses to abdicate the ring.”
Meanwhile, the Tesla chief who has been dating Grimes since 2018 confirmed last September that they had split up. "Grimes and I are, I’d say, probably semi-separated,” he quoted to Time, which named him its 2021 Person of the Year.
