Dubai's markets bustle during Ramzan despite missiles raining on Gulf
India Today
Markets remain busy after Iftar, expatriate workers say they feel safe, and traders praise authorities even as missile and drone threats in the region keep security agencies on alert.
Even as the widening conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran fuels instability across the Gulf, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has largely avoided the worst of the violence. Yet the shadow of the war is visible, with authorities on alert and residents closely watching developments across the region.
A ground visit to Deira in Old Dubai shows that while caution prevails, daily life continues with relative normalcy. Traffic on some roads appeared lighter than usual, but the bustling markets of Deira continued to draw crowds, particularly after the evening iftar during the holy month of Ramzan.
By late evening, families were seen stepping out to dine, shop and spend time outdoors, bringing back the familiar buzz of the neighbourhood’s restaurants and markets.
Business owners said the turnout has remained encouraging despite regional tensions. Restaurants and eateries in the area reported steady crowds after iftar, as residents and visitors gathered for meals and evening outings.
Traders in the busy commercial district said business activity had not slowed significantly, and many people were trying to maintain normal routines despite the broader geopolitical uncertainty.
Deira is home to a large expatriate workforce drawn from several countries, many of whom work in nearby commercial and industrial areas. Workers in the locality said they were aware of the situation unfolding across the Gulf but did not feel immediate fear.

When we look at Iran through the prism of religion and see a Shia Islamic country, we negate its thousands of years of rich pre-Islamic Persian culture.
