A man has been arrested for allegedly killing his father by crushing his head with a brick after a drunken altercation in the Civil Lines area of Meerut, police said. The incident occurred late Friday night.
According to police, the accused also slit his own wrist with a knife after the attack. He was taken into custody when police arrived at the scene.
Police said the father and son were drinking together when an argument broke out between them. The dispute soon escalated into a violent fight. During the altercation, the son allegedly picked up a brick and repeatedly struck his father on the head and body, causing fatal injuries.
The deceased has been identified as Rajesh, a native of Motihari in Bihar. He had been living in the Jail Chungi area of Meerut with his elder son Aman for around 20 years. The two were engaged in scrap trading and operated from two municipal shops in the locality.
Rajesh’s wife Anita and his other children, son Ankit and daughters Khushi and Julie, live in Bihar. Police said both Rajesh and Aman were reportedly addicted to alcohol.
Residents in the area alerted the police after learning about the violent fight and the attack. A team from Civil Lines police station reached the spot and detained Aman. Rajesh was taken to a hospital, but doctors declared him dead.

This moment comes days after the Supreme Court allowed Harish Rana to die with dignity – a historic first court-ordered case of passive euthanasia in India. The court acknowledged the medical opinion that Rana will never recover and that the tubes that feed him and keep him alive are only prolonging his pain.
