DoE asks Delhi schools to produce status report on installation of rainwater harvesting system
India Today
The Directorate of Education has asked schools in Delhi to submit a status report on the installation of rainwater harvesting systems in their campuses.
All schools in Delhi, whether they are private or government run, have been asked by the Directorate of Education to produce a report concerning the status of fitting rainwater harvesting systems in the school premises. Delhi Jal Board’s Rain Water Harvesting Cell (RWH) had instructed schools to make the necessary arrangements for inspection.
The DoE order to schools read, “All heads of schools are directed to submit report about the status of installation of rainwater harvesting system.”
“The schools should also provide necessary arrangements to facilitate the technical team of DJB's RWH cell to inspect these schools," read the order further.
All government and private schools and colleges were asked to fit rainwater harvesting systems in their campuses within two months at their own cost by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in 2017.
The green panel had said further, any institution that fails to install the rainwater harvesting equipment within the allowed time would be liable to pay Rs 5 lakh in environmental compensation.
At least 605 private schools in Delhi were warned by the DoE in 2019 that they could lose their recognition if they did not pay Rs 5 lakh in environmental compensation for failing to build a rainwater harvesting system.
