Dhurandhar 2 vs Toxic: RGV makes his choice, calls it a clash between two cultures
India Today
Director Ram Gopal Varma reaffirmed support for Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar and its sequel ahead of its highly anticipated box office clash with Yash's Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups.
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has once again expressed his admiration for Aditya Dhar's blockbuster spy thriller Dhurandhar, featuring Ranveer Singh, highlighting his continued support for the film since its release in cinemas on December 5, 2025. Varma's renewed praise comes ahead of a notable box office competition between Dhurandhar: The Revenge and Geethu Mohandas Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups, starring Yash.
Varma has made his loyalty to the Dhurandhar franchise evident, sustaining his positive remarks on social media. He has maintained consistent support for the film both following its release and in the lead-up to the sequel's theatrical debut.
In his lengthy post on X, the filmmaker highlighted the aspects of the film that impressed him, such as its gripping narrative, strong performances, and the directorial vision of Aditya Dhar.
The filmmaker asserted that Dhuroxic is not a clash of “North vs South” or “Bollywood vs Sandalwood,” but rather a confrontation between two cinematic cultures — “not of regions, but of cinema.”
THE #Dhuroxic PARKNO, I am not talking about TWO BIG FILMS #Dhurandhar2 and #Toxic releasing on March 19th. I am actually talking about a NEVER BEFORE SEEN or EXPERIENCED mythical archetype EXPLODING in the GRAND ARENA of INDIAN CINEMAS.It is a BATTLE between DAVID AND GOLIATH— Ram Gopal Varma (@RGVzoomin) February 22, 2026
He further wrote, “The fundamental difference is that #DHURANDHAR respects the audience’s intelligence, whereas #TOXIC assumes they are dumb (sic).”

By weaving in real-life flashpoints – from Atiq Ahmed's killing to demonetisation in India and Narendra Modi's 2014 victory speech – Dhurandhar: The Revenge blurs the line between fiction and reality. Aditya Dhar uses recent history to lend urgency, scale, and unsettling authenticity to the gritty narrative.
