D.K. Suresh, former MP and brother of Deputy Chief MInister D.K. Shivakumar, on Saturday filed his nomination for the post of director of Bangalore Milk Union Ltd. (BAMUL).
Speaking to reporters before filing his nomination papers, the former MP said he was contesting for the post as a representative of Kanakapura “on the insistence and cooperation of” senior party leaders, MLAs, and milk producers from Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, and Ramanagara districts.
Asked if he was eyeing the post of Karnataka Milk Federation’s (KMF) president, he said, “The KMF issue is not under discussion at the moment. Our party leaders have served as president and directors of BAMUL for the past 10 years. So there is nothing special about it. I have taken this decision as they insisted on me being with them.”
“All the taluks that come under BAMUL have achieved a lot in milk production and many farmers are dependent on this. Milk and silk are the livelihood of our farmers here. The opinion of all leaders is to provide justice to farmers. I have filed the nomination as per their decision,” he said.
Asked if his contest was being portrayed as a fight between the DK brothers and the Deve Gowda family, he said, “Those who want will debate in any way. Our aim is to protect the interests of farmers. We must work towards bringing about significant changes in the dairy sector and I am committed to achieving this.”
Replying to queries, Mr. Suresh said he was not aiming at anything big at the moment and would continue serving the party as a loyal worker.
“I discussed with our leaders and filed the nomination following the insistence of party leaders and KPCC president D.K. Shivakumar. This is not against or in favour of anyone. This decision has been made to revive the lives of farmers who contribute 17 lakh litres of milk. This union contributes to 30% of the State’s milk production. Thus, there are opportunities to further develop this union and facilitate farmers. My focus is on bringing about a change in the lives of farmers rather. I am not bothered if this position is big or small,” he said.
