CUET twice a year from next year, 8 lakh students competing for 70k DU seats: DU VC
India Today
With CUET UG 2022 scheduled for July 15, DU VC Yogesh Singh said that while 8 lakh students had registered to study at Delhi University, there were just 70,000 seats available, indicating stiff competition. He said plans were on to hold CUET twice a year.
Delhi University has always been a prime higher studies destination for students in India. This year onwards, the sky-high cut-offs of Delhi University will likely be history as the entrance exam process has changed. Students will now get college admission to DU through CUET. But that doesn't mean the competition would get any easier.
With CUET UG 2022 set to be held tomorrow, July 15, India Today got talking to DU VC Yogesh Singh.
"More than 8 lakh students have registered to come to Delhi university - we have 70,000 seats ... The competition is stiff still," Singh said.
"We are planning to begin the CUET twice a year from next academic year. This will give chance to students to give the CUET exam in two attempts," added the DU VC.
"We want students to understand that the percentile will be normalised for each subject. No student will face inequality," said Singh.
As a piece of advice to students who are anxious about computer-based tests, he said, "Please practice a bit; NTA will try to assist you in exam centres."
He also informed that the MCQ papers were made by NCERT and 20 other education boards. "Some subjects may be difficult but not all," said the DU VC.
