Cops vs cops over 'unauthorised' arrest of shirtless protest accused in Himachal

Shimla Police registered a kidnapping case against 15–20 unidentified individuals in plain clothes, alleging that the three men were forcibly taken from a resort in the Rohru area without proper documentation.
A jurisdictional clash between the Himachal Pradesh Police and the Delhi Police escalated on Wednesday after a Delhi Police team was stopped at the Shoghi barrier near Shimla while transporting three Youth Congress workers arrested in connection with the February 20 "shirtless protest" at the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi.
Shimla Police registered a kidnapping case against 15–20 unidentified individuals in plain clothes, alleging that the three men were forcibly taken from a resort in the Rohru area without proper documentation. According to a statement, the team also removed the resort’s CCTV DVR without issuing any receipt.
Delhi Police earlier said its Special Cell had apprehended Saurabh, Siddharth and Arbaz from a hotel in the Chirgaon area of Rohru subdivision.
An official in the national capital said the trio were produced before a local court and granted transit remand to enable their transfer to Delhi for further investigation.
However, Himachal Police sources claimed the Delhi team neither informed local authorities nor completed the necessary procedural formalities, including securing valid transit remand at the time of interception.
Acting on this, Himachal Police stopped three vehicles — two in Shimla district and one near Dharampur in Solan — and brought them back to Shimla. Around 20 individuals, including police personnel, were detained for questioning.

India on Monday said it has not held bilateral talks with the United States on deploying naval vessels to secure merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The clarification came after US President Donald Trump urged countries to send warships to keep the strategic waterway open amid tensions with Iran.
