Cold nights set for a comeback in Telangana

Hyderabad and its environs could see minimum temperatures hovering between 15 and 18 degrees C, he said.

The capital region along with north and central Telangana are likely to witness cold nights in a couple of days with the night temperatures expected to hover between 8-12 degrees C.

Hyderabad and its surroundings could see minimum temperatures drop to around 15 degrees C, said meteorologists at the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) on Monday.

Senior weather consultant Y.V. Rama Rao informed that the night temperatures could dip considerably in those regions along with north and central India (Adilabad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Warangal, Khammam, Hyderabad and Rangareddy). Already, a few places in these districts have recorded 12-14 degrees C.

With that, the daily day temperatures currently in the range of 32-33 degrees C could drop to about 27-28 degrees in the districts and within the capital region, it could be between 27-30 degrees C. The city and its environs could see minimum temperatures hovering between 15 and 18 degrees C, he said.

Winter could last up to January second week and in the meantime, there could be a lull in rainfall except for some light rain. The change in weather expected in the coming days will off-set the effect of the easterly wind flows from the Bay of Bengal to the Arabian Sea.

This wind low had led to a rise in temperature, both during the day and night, cloudy skies and high moisture during the past few days. This was also on the account of a couple of low pressures in the Bay of Bengal, explained Mr. Rao.

The institute has recorded cumulative rainfall of 104.5 cm as against a normal of 84.9 cm from June 1 to December 9, with a deviation 23%. This is 14% more than last year when the rainfall recorded was 91.4 cm.
