Hyderabad experiences intermittent rain and IMD forecasts more thundershowers, bringing relief from rising temperatures.
Hyderabad witnessed a fresh spell of rain on Wednesday (March 18, 2026) morning, March 18, following showers that continued intermittently after midnight. The city woke up to overcast skies, with several areas receiving rainfall during the early hours of the day.
Cloudy conditions have persisted in Hyderabad since Monday (March 16) evening, when parts of the city first experienced light rain. This was followed by light to moderate rainfall around midnight on Tuesday (March 17) and into the early hours of Wednesday (March 18). The showers have brought some relief from the high maximum temperatures recorded across Hyderabad since the beginning of March.
At 10.49 a.m., the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an alert forecasting light to moderate thundershowers for the next few hours in the northern parts of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). Areas likely to be affected include Alwal, Hakimpet and Quthbullapur.
In an impact-based forecast issued by IMD on Wednesday (March 18), Hyderabad is likely to experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied with gusty winds towards evening or night.
According to data from Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), Alwal recorded 4.8 mm of rainfall as of 11 a.m.
